Service and repair businesses need to promote themselves

If you’re over 30, you remember the days of business cards. Most homeowners had a designated “junk drawer” with a stash of business cards near the front. When the water heater went out or the garage door was on the fritz, it was time to rifle through the cards to call for help.
We know you’ve learned the importance of digital marketing, Google business listings, and customer testimonials to guide clients to your business. However, we recommend that all service and repair companies also promote themselves with custom stickers and magnets.
Why use custom stickers and magnets for service/repair business promotion?
It is important (for all business owners) to advertise online with the goal of gaining new customers, but it’s equally or more important to retain the customers you’ve already worked so hard to bring in!
How can you effectively retain your current clients?
Stickers and magnets are an ideal replacement for business cards. To illustrate my point, I’ll share a personal experience.
Two years ago, my garage door had a broken spring. I grabbed my phone, and by a stroke of luck, I was able to find the service person who installed my garage door originally. He arrived quickly, repaired my garage door, and handed me his business card. I fully intended to hire him again; he did great work, offered fair prices, and remembered me well.
I failed to keep his business card or add his contact info to my phone.
The next time my garage door acted up, didn’t get so lucky online and had to hire a different company. While they did the repairs, they charged more, and the interaction didn’t feel as friendly or personal.
If my original garage door installer had placed a custom-made sticker on the garage door interior that included his contact information – he would’ve retained a customer and I could have saved time and money.
Most service and repair business owners are likely to have many customers who won’t be able to remember their name without a reminder. Every time you complete a repair, hand the client your business card, and let them know that you’ve also placed a sticker in a discreet place directly on the equipment you’ve just repaired or serviced.
Custom magnets work just as well if you’re working on anything metal—and can also be placed on a customer’s refrigerator.

The goal is to have your information placed right where they can find it. Don’t let them be like me, using my phone to blindly search “garage door repair near me,” fingers crossed that I’d find the repair company I was looking for.
When your company offers fair prices and excellent service, your customers want to rely on you again and again. Make it easy for them by leaving a visible reminder of just who it was who arrived to help them out last time.
